The Shinseikai Social Welfare Service Corporation Social Welfare Research Institute was founded in 1976 by Susumu Miyazaki, the first President of the institute. Since then the institute has strived for the development of child and maternal welfare in Japan and a fostering environment. Our effort resulted in starting a new academic journal, “Boshi Kenkyu (research on mother and child), which has been issued for the past 25 years. This journal has been edited by the leading researchers in psychology and sociology. During these years, we have fostered new researchers who make an impact in the fields of social work, psychology, and sociology.
Even though the needs for child and maternal welfare originate in the after war era where poverty prevailed, the needs still exist nowadays with changing challenges. Modern families with fathers continue to face different challenges.
The Shirayuri Research Institute for Psychology and Social Work was founded in 2019 succeeding the belief of the original research institute, while aspiring to meet the emerging social needs by putting child welfare center and to improve childrearing as well as maternal and paternal issues through conducting practical research.
Thanks for your understanding and cooperation.
